The capital city of England, London, is almost as famous for its fantastic shopping opportunities as it is for its prestigious history and varied culture Folk from all ’round the globe fly to London to experience the mind boggling number of boutique stores, department stores and specialist markets. With the strong Dollar and weak £ those folk visiting from the US will find goods are much cheaper as it has been in the past, the same can be said for those folk visiting from European countries because the Pound is also weak against the Euro.

Probably the most famous department store in London is Harrods of Knightsbridge the largest in the world having a total of 18,000 m2 of floor space. The Harrods motto is ‘Omnia Omnibus Ubique’ meaning all things for all people, everywhere’. Harrods has a well earned reputation for offering exclusive luxury items of ultra high quality and their food hall and toy department are extremely famous
Another department store well worth a mention is Selfridges. Found on Oxford Street, Selfridges opened for the first time in 1909. Named after, and constructed by the entrepreneur Gordon Selfridge the department store had been specially designed so that the goods were readily accessible to the customers which was a drastic departure from the common practices of the day.
